500 Miles

One of my favorite songs is The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). It makes me happy just to think about it.

It popped in my head today when my Mom and I walked around our neighborhood, to the mall, to the movie theater, to Target, K-Mart, Michael's, Sally's, Circuit City, and Chili's. No, we didn't walk 500 miles, but we walked a good distance. It was wonderful to be outside and enjoying the 8o degree weather on a gentle trot through E. Mesa.

I have to say though, people around us thought we were crazy. I guess people don't walk here, even when it's nice out. In all reality, people don't spend much time outside at all, apart from golfing. It kind of makes me sad.

Theory of the day: If we walked more, we would be all-around happier.

And now I am off to practice my sermon for tomorrow out at Epiphany. It's called "Once Upon a Time." I'm excited.

Peace--

I seriously think that if people walked to more of the places they need to go that this alone would contribute significantly toward resolving many of humanities problems.
