The Adventure Continues!

The Ford Focus Wagon--the Johnson hearse--has been packed full, new tires have been put on and brakes have been fixed, and it has survived the first 1,000+ miles of the trip to Arizona.

My mom, Ellen, and I left Wisconsin early Thursday morning for our cross-country adventure. We enjoyed our trip through Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska--where we rested last night in Grand Island. The drive was long enough for us, but Arizona is summoning us!

This morning we crossed into Mountain time and have been pleasantly journeying through the mountains of Colorado. We made it to Denver, but were disappointed with the $2 tolls every few miles and the hazy sky that blocked our view of the Rockies. Still, we passed through Colorado Springs, gave a nod to the Air Force Academy and a thumbs down to Jim Dobson and the multi-million dollar Focus on the Family building, and made it to the beautiful Garden of the Gods.

For this visit alone, it was well worth the trip! The red rock in the midst of the mountains is breathtaking. We enjoyed the long walk through, in, and around the rock and the relief it provided to our cramping legs and swollen feet.

We decided to continue on from Colorado Springs--the congested traffic was driving us nuts--and so with the guide of UB's GPS we have fondly named, "Ethel," and we have forged our way to Canon City, CO for rest and relaxation.

Tomorrow's stop: the Royal Gorge and then on to Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.

Wishing you were here with us---

HGJ & Elly

Hannah! So fun, Scott & I went through Canon City, CO just a few weeks ago. Do not eat at the little cafe downtown with a chicken on the sign...it is not good! Hope you and your mom are loving your trip! HUGS! nina

Canon City is right near Rainbow Trail, it was the town we went into every weekend to rest, play frisbee, and eat non-camp food. Hope you enjoy one of my favorite parts of Colorado! I love your updates, and miss you a lot. Back in Minnesota now, and things aren't the same without you. Take care and call soon!

Your blog is terrific. I've enjoyed the photos, stories and video of the apartment. I especially liked the toes over the GC.
I talked to your papa; he sent me the web address. I will keep it and check in on you from time to time. Give your mama a kiss.
