Nu este mai mare...

Hello!

The internet didn't work yesterday so we could not write. It is actually nice to not be so connected to the computer, though being away from the news and regular updates is hard, especially without a phone.

Our VBS starts today at the CDC (Community Development Center) and we are so excited. We will work with about 75 kids today. The CDC is located in the po0rest area of Turneveni--an area highly populated by gypsys. Our first look at the CDC proved the need for such programming in this city. Very poor area, lots of people. I think word has gotten out that foreigners are in town, so a crowd started to gather as soon as we arrived there yesterday. It's only a mile from the hotel so we are hoping to do some walking back and forth these next days.

Everyone has been friendly, though of course we don't understand what they are saying when they look at us. It is both riveting and scary at the same time to be in a place where we know no language.

Mom and I are in charge of memory verse station today. Not my favorite thing ever--I hated doing it when I was a kid! Still, we have been having a blast getting ready for it. We have been trying to memorize the verse in Romanian. John 15:13 Nu este mai mare dragoste decut, sa-si dea cineva viata pentru prieteni sai.

This is how we wrote it down: New yesta my mare draghost deecut, soosh daya chenava viatsa pentrue preanteknee soy. Oh, my.

We have high school translator volunteers working with us and they are so much fun. Our education pales in comparison to their brilliance. Each speaks 4+ languages! They are all very sweet and we are looking forward to getting to know them better. We are happy to have good people to laugh at our mispronounciation and misunderstanding.

Our food has been great so far. Breakfast has been good. Basically sandwich fixings, yogurt, fruit, good coffee, bread, and this delicious nutella-like stuff. Yesterday we had Romanian pizza and salads for supper.
No complaints on that end at all.

Well, we are ready to head out to the CDC for the day. It is rainy...and glorious! I heard thunder last night and it was such a treat. I missed clouds and storms.

Hope you have a great day. Think of us and the kids we are working with. They need all the love they can get. (Don't we all?)

Pace--
HGJ
