The week is flying by! It has almost been a month since arriving here in Arizona, and each day continues to bring new elements of surprise.
Here are some of those elements from today:
1. I just realized the sermon I preach this weekend will be preached not once, or twice, or even three or four times...it's like Easter every Sunday at Our Saviors, and so the grand total of preaching opportunities this weekend alone is 5! Count 'em...5! Ah! It better be a good one, or I'm going to bore myself to death.
2. Quilting time with the elders is absolutely one of the most fascinating things...ever. What's better than sewing on tickles for blankets to be donated to the community while talking about church and politics and eating delicious treats?! Of course, I'm not really allowed to talk politics with parishoners, but it's almost as great just to listen to them. Because of these lovely women, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.
3. I can cook...kind of. I made a big pot of potato soup, and then remembered that I am only one person and probably don't want to eat it every day for the next two weeks. It was, however, a wonderful surprise that I can create something "adult like" and it can taste kind of good.
4. My brothers and parents can tell me all about the awesome TV show they just saw HOURS before they even broadcast here. I kind of feel robbed--like I'm missing out on something spectacular with the time delay.
5. I never thought I would say 97 degrees is cold! Ok, well I don't exactly believe it, but the sunset does provide wonderful relief from the 100+ degree weather.
And now, it's back to work tomorrow...and Saturday...and Sunday, and then Monday again.
Full-time church life is busy! The best news of all though is that all I have to "do" is church--not school and church.
Life is decently good.
All the best,
