Hero of the Day: Margaret Mead

The challenges of change are things I have been struggling with for a long time. The more I witness & experience struggles in the church due to stagnancy and the idea that "well, we've always done it that way before," the more I am reminded how hard ministry is...at least the kind of ministry I am passionate about.

Some days it feels like a never-ending uphill battle. For some reason, this week has been full of those days.

When I was a sophomore at Gustavus I took a class called "Changing the World." It suited me to a tee. I loved studying, learning, discussing, and dreaming about expanding the potential of the world. I was inspired every day.

Today I found my bright green t-shirt from the class. I forgot I had even brought it with to Arizona. On the back of it, one of my favorite quotes is written:

"Never doubt that small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has."--Margaret Mead

I am reminded that hard work paired with intentionally focused and grounded people can make a difference.

Our world certainly needs change. And right now, I think the church needs to follow suit.

Best--
HGJ
